Mrs Teresa Gilpin Christ College opened in September 2007 as a Joint Roman Catholic and Church of England School. Christ College continues to build on the success of its predecessor, St Benedict’s Catholic College. Christ College serves all those in Cheltenham who want an education in a school which is rooted in the values and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christ College is a Christian place of learning with spiritual and moral values at its heart. Our community:
‘Let your light so shine, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16 Supporting our vision we have a dedicated team of teachers, learning support assistants, positive behaviour assistants, administrative team and technicians. Our chaplaincy team is led by our two non teaching chaplain assistants – Hannah Cooke and Cecilia Spence who work with support from clergy from both the Church of England and Catholic Church. Pupils are offered opportunities for prayer, reflection, enquiry, discussion and action through the work of the chaplaincy and the RE department. Prayer is at the heart of our community with Christian assemblies, prayer in tutor time and the celebration of school liturgies. As a Sports College since 1999 we use the medium of sport to develop the God given potential of all pupils. Sporting facilities and opportunities are excellent: we have an Astro-turf, sports hall and playing field. Sporting opportunities include: boxercise, concept rowing, lacrosse, badminton, basketball as well as the traditional sports of football, rugby, hockey and netball. Sport is used to build the personal attributes important to the development of the whole person including self confidence, ambition, health and well being, appreciation of fair play, self esteem, good relationships and the ability to cope with winning and losing. Christ College offers opportunities for the development of leadership qualities with accredited courses in sport, The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, leadership awards in French. Pupils also have the opportunity to participate in the St Edward’s Combined Cadet Force. We are an inclusive school and an open school. We believe that the education of our pupils is best served when the school and parents and carers work together to ensure that the young people entrusted into our care are happy, safe and fully supported and challenged as they prepare for adult life.
