Carols by Candle light – Christ College celebrates Christmas
Christ College celebrated this special time of year with a candle-lit Carol Service.
The theme of the service was Hope for Today, Hope for Tomorrow, and began with members of staff processing into the hall and performing Wait For The Lord by the prolific Taize composer Jacques Berthier.
The Taize Community is an ecumenical Christian Monastic order in France, and their music is characterised by the chant-like repetition of lines of scripture as an aid to meditative prayer.
Music for the service was provided by a group of students and staff, and included a selection of traditional and modern carols.
In the Bleak Midwinter featured a solo by Amy Pierce, who demonstrated her vocal ability earlier this year by winning the School Talent Show.
The service included O West Bank Town of Bethlehem, a stark, contemporary take on the traditional carol O Little Town Of Bethlehem that reminds us of the tragic conflicts that beset this region today.

Also
featured was the uplifting Tim Hughes composition Whole World in His
Hands, with it’s accompanying film that shows the epic majesty of
creation.
Elements of the carol service were also used in school assembly during the last week of term.
Christ College Head of Music Naomi Austin said: “It has been a peaceful and joyful celebration in preparation for Christmas.”
