India ‘Oar’ bust—Christ College Rows to Hyderabad

It’s a long way to India—and Christ College students have been trying to get there by rowing machine!

The eight Year 10 students have been sponsored to try and row the distance to Hyderabad as indicated on the virtual distance indicator on the machine to help raise funds for their visit to the country in January.

Christ College SSCO Dan Derrick said: “As well as the rowing, the students have been raising funds by running Saturday morning football tournaments, bag packing at a local supermarket and a Christmas Disco.”

Once in India, the eight students and two teachers will be coaching local primary schools in Tag Rugby and Rounders, and donating the equipment needed for them to carry on playing after the Christ College delegation returns home.

Mr. Derrick added: “We’re making steady progress towards our target amount, and all donations towards this worthwhile venture would be appreciated.”

Director of Sports at Christ College Niall Ferguson, who visited the Indian schools last spring said: “The students have worked really hard and we’re all looking forward to the visit.”
