Christ College Signs on for Visual Language Course
Students
and staff at Christ College have been enjoying a series of sign language
lessons.
Paula Jones, Gloucestershire Outreach Project Co-ordinator at Milestone School in Gloucester has been instructing people at schools and family centres around the county.
Said Paula: “The idea of the course is to give people a better understanding of the importance of using sign language to help communicate with those who have difficulty with everyday speech.”
Mrs. Lucia Elliott of Christ College said: “It’s been a very enjoyable course, enabling us to learn the basic words used by people with communication difficulties. All of us have expressed an interest in continuing to practice in school, with the help of some discs provided by the tutors.”
She
added: “It was great fun at the end of the course, making up our own
sentences to sign. For some reason, the signs for ‘Cake’ and ‘Biscuit’
seemed to be the easiest to remember!”
