‘Quo’ Drummer Jeff Demonstrates the Role of the Drums at Christ College
Christ
College rocked to the sound of Jeff Rich and his Drum Masterclass.
Lincolnshire-based Jeff, former drummer with Status Quo, now specialises in
demonstrating the art of the drummer in schools across the country, and has
done so in over 5000 junior and senior schools.
Jeff explained the history of the drum, from the earliest hollow logs through to the medieval Tabor and the modern drum kit that he has made his name with.
A highlight was Jeff’s blistering barrage of a drum solo, after which the attending students had a chance to join in with percussion instruments.
Like
countless aspiring drummers, Jeff began as a youngster by playing a biscuit
tin with a pair of knitting needles before getting a snare drum and building
up his first kit.
Long hours of practice led to his turning professional and working as a session musician playing for television commercials before working with some of biggest names in the music business such as Judie Tzuke, Def Leppard, and of course, Status Quo.
Jeff’s drumming heroes were the likes of Mitch Mitchell and Ginger Baker, but now Jeff is himself an inspiration to drummers everywhere.
A
world class drummer and a natural educator and communicator, Jeff’s
infectious enthusiasm for the world of drums, percussion and rhythm had the
whole school captivated.
