All Were Safely Gathered In - Primary Schools Celebrate the Harvest with Christ College
The
main hall at Christ College was packed as six local primary schools joined
in for their Harvest Festival celebration.
Mrs Cecilia Spence, from Christ College’s Chaplaincy team, spoke of the history of the harvest festival, and how that in 1843, the Rev Robert Hawker held the first harvest thanksgiving service as we have come to know them today at his church in Morwenstow, Cornwall.
Children from Gardeners Lane, Hesters Way, Holy Trinity, Rowanfield, St. Gregory’s and St. Thomas More junior schools participated in the proceedings with poetry and music, and Christ College Year 7’s performed a play about Maximus Mouse before leading everyone in a harvest time song.
The Rev. Philip Smith from St. Aidan & St. Silas Church led the assembly in a final prayer and blessing.
Afterwards he said “It’s been a fabulous occasion, where everyone has been enthusiastically reminded to say thank you.”
Also
in attendance was the Rev. Bosco MacDonald, who as recent incumbent in the
post of Parish Priest of St Gregory's Church said: “I am delighted to have
taken part in what has been my first official event here at Christ College.”
