Christ College Year 7’s Kick Off New Term with Healthy Living Day

Year 7’s at Christ College had a great start to the term when they took part in a Healthy Living day.

Things started off with a bounce when they tried out trampolining, a sport which benefits the cardiovascular system, develops motor skills, and of course, is great fun!

Then they tried their hands (and feet!) at Kickboxercise, and enjoyed a taster session at the activity, known to benefit balance, flexibility and co-ordination.

Nutrition is an all important aspect of healthy living, and Head of D.T. Mrs. Margaret Coleman took classes in fresh fruit smoothie making:

“Fruit smoothies are an easy way to get two or three portion of the recommended ‘five a day’. It’s also been a great opportunity for the pupils to try out different fruits.”

She added: “It’s important to have a good nutritious breakfast, and a smoothie is a fun way to start the day on a high note.”

Additionally, the students had the chance to think about the marketing and design of the smoothies they had created, which enhanced the students ‘Noticing’ skills, helping them to acquire important information, pick up on details and correct faults

Director of Sport Niall Ferguson said: “The students enjoyed the opportunity to learn new activities such as Trampolining and Kickboxercise, as well as creating nutritional smoothies, and the accompanying marketing and design element.”
