Christ College “Aims Higher” at Haute Couture Hartpury
Year
Nines from Christ College had a taste of the world of
haute couture when they attended
the Fashionista Enterprise Design Event at Hartpury College.
The event was part of an
Aim Higher Business & Enterprise Interschool Challenge developed by
Brockworth Enterprise School, and took the students through the creative
side of the business, with the teams coming up with a company name, a range
of clothing and an advertising scheme to help promote their look. The aim is
to develop enterprise skills such as problem solving, working in teams,
decision making, financial capability and presentation skills.
A model from each team paraded catwalk-style to show off their handiwork, and their advertising slogans and posters were shown off and awarded marks for creativity.
Graham Jeffs of Brockworth Enterprise School said: “These events have proved to be extremely popular. As long as you engage with the creative process, you can’t get it wrong, and surprisingly, it’s often the boys who enjoy the dressing up aspect more than the girls!”
The
aim is to develop enterprise skills such as problem solving, working in
teams, decision making, financial capability and presentation.
Subject Leader Stuart Langworthy adds: “Our group of PGCE business Trainees have planned and run Enterprise projects like this for four years now, taking them on the road to county schools involved in Teacher Training. The feed back from students and staff was excellent, and all had a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience.”
There was a secondary purpose to the school’s visit, and that was for a tour of the college’s splendid rural campus.
Hartpury College is associated with the University of the West of England, and features agricultural, sports and animal related courses in its prospectus.
Julie
Parr, Aim Higher Co-ordinator for Christ College said: “Our students have
really enjoyed this visit, and having the chance to see the wide range of
options available at Hartpury first hand has got a number of them
considering it as their further education option.”
