Unlikely “Haka” launches Tag Rugby Tournament at Christ College

Teams from eight local primary schools converged on Christ College to take part in a Tag Rugby Tournament.

After a warm-up session, the youngsters were given some last minute pointers in the game by coach Ken Cuthbert.

Just as the fearsome New Zealand All-Blacks get fired up before a match by performing the Haka, these youngsters were also put into the spirit of the game—by singing the SpongeBob Squarepants theme!

“The kids all know the words, and it’s a great ice breaker at an occasion like this,” says coach Ken.

Gardeners Lane Primary School were the eventual winners, taking away with them a splendid trophy.

All of the gallant participants received a certificate to commemorate the day.

Mr. Cuthbert sums up: “The kids have really enjoyed the tournament, with fun and sportsmanship being the order of the day.”

Christ College-based  SSCo Dan Derrick said: “The Tag Rugby Tournament is an annual event that is growing year on year, and it’s a great opportunity for the schools to meet up in friendly competition.”
