Christ College hosts Junior Tournament for football Stars of Tomorrow

An exciting day of football action was held at Christ College when teams from eight local primary schools took part in a ‘Round Robin’ tournament.

Thanks to Extended Service funding, the Primary Schools had benefited from five weekly after-school training sessions with community coaches from Cheltenham Town Football Club.

Year 10 students from Christ College organised the day, and as well as acting as referees and pitch marshals, provided their own coaching skills to the budding football stars.

The festival acted as the final assessment of the Football Association Junior Football Organiser course which the Year 10’s have been completing in their PE lessons.

SSCO Dan Derrick said: “Our Year 10 pupils have done a fantastic job today in organising the festival, and it’s been a great a chance for the visiting children to put the skills they have learnt into practice against other schools.”

All competing players received a medal and a certificate, but the trophy went to a team from Rowanfield Junior School. Presentations were made by Cheltenham Town players Will Puddy and Craig Armstrong.

Mr. Derrick added: “It was great to see so many children, boys and girls having a fantastic time playing football.”
