Christ College teachers soaking all in a good cause

Pupils at Christ College repeatedly threw wet sponges at their teachers - but this was no anarchic breakdown of school discipline. The event was one of several held throughout the school week to raise money for Winston’s Wish, the child bereavement charity.

Pupils paid for the privilege of launching the soaking sponges at their teachers with impunity.

One of the ‘targets’, support worker Ian Dance said: “It was good to give the students a chance to ‘get their own back’ in a fun, charity fundraising kind of way - although I thought I saw a ham sandwich flying amongst the sponges at one point!”

Other events included a 500 metre ‘Rowathon’ rowing machine competition and a biscuit sale.

Teacher Liz Hackling said: “We’ve raised in the region of £150, with a few bits and pieces still coming in. I’m really proud of year 8 for all their efforts in raising money for such a good cause.”
