Christ College man helps Belmont School make a splash!
Christ
College Sports Centre Manager Dave Potts has been helping pupils from
Belmont School to make a splash by introducing them to canoe and kayak
paddling. Eleven students were awarded Level 1 Paddlepower certificates, and
are well on their way to level 2.
The course, held over a six week period,
included flat water kayaking, as well as a team effort to power a ten-person
bell boat on the River Avon. There were also sessions held in a swimming
pool to help pupils gain confidence whilst being safe at all times.
“The Paddlepower programme is a new way of introducing youngsters to water based activities, and it’s being made available to pupils within the Cheltenham Partnership area to broaden their sporting horizons,” said Mr. Potts.
Belmont School PE Teacher Paul Shand said: “This is the first year we have worked with Dave Potts at Christ College. It was a hugely successful programme of work enjoyed by staff and pupils alike. Every pupil was challenged and ultimately succeeded gaining new skills and enhanced self confidence. We hope to build on this link in future years.”
