Christ College pupils ‘Walk the Walk’ for good causes
Cheltenham Town professionals Sam Foley and Will Puddy also joined in, reflecting the schools’ sports college status. There were also four courageous year eleven boys who volunteered to have their hair straightened to the amusement of the many spectators.
A total of £679 was raised for the St. Vincent’s school for Orphans in Monze, Zambia, and the Mother of Peace Orphange in KwaZulu Natal. St.Vincent’s will receive classroom supplies, and the Mother of Peace Orphanage will have new cupboards for one of its chalets.
Head of RE Theresa Scarfe said: ‘As a faith school, we are
committed to living out the Gospel values, and walking the walk, as opposed to
just talking the talk, is a demonstration of that commitment’
Christ College Support Worker Ian Dance, who will be visiting the Mother of Peace orphanage in the summer, said: ‘I’m delighted that the school has chosen to support such a worthwhile project that is literally changing children’s lives.”
“I’ll be brushing up on my DIY skills, so it could be me who installs the cupboards we provide.”
The former sugar plantation huts now house up to 90 children, with facilities for more planned for the future.
